‘We Should Be Able To Stand Up For Our Rights,’ Declares Chicago Nurse Lauri, who has been a nurse for 12 years, claims she was fired from her job at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago after she sent an e-mail to hospital management and 50 of her co-workers expressing her concern over the alleged lack of personal protective equipment for healthcare providers.

Her attorney claims hospital officials say Lauri’s employment was terminated because she allegedly violated patient privacy laws, which she vehemently denies.

“We should be able to stand up for our rights, demand better equipment to protect us and others,” declares Lauri, who insists she won’t be silenced. She claims she’s seen too many nurses disciplined or fired for speaking out about the need for adequate safety measures.

In a statement from Northwestern Medicine, administrators say that while they cannot comment on the specifics of a pending lawsuit, the facility is following CDC guidance regarding the use of personal protective equipment, and “is committed to the safety of our employees who are on the frontlines of this global health care crisis.”
