This is a story of the triumph of human will power and a mother’s unconditional love. It all started with an innocuous news in a vernacular news channel in Kerala, which mentioned that a jawan of Border Security Force, Arun Kumar was in a critical state at the Intensive Care Unit of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Jodhpur and was rapidly sinking. He told his doctors that his last wish - talk to his mother in Kerala. As the jawan sinking into an unconscious state, the doctor immediately informed the next of kin and the message reached Arun’s family and also the Mathrubhumi news channel.
Arun’s family who hail form Mundakayam near Kottayam approached the local MP, MLA and Chief Minister Pinayrai Vijayan, but they expressed helplessness as the travel involved crossing 6 states, an impossible task in the present lockdown. Chief Minister Vijayan however assured that they would get the paperwork ready if someone was willing to arrange a vehicle and travel with the family.
However, no one was willing to take the risk. On hearing about the case, Kerala Hindu Helpline decided to take up the task. Things moved fast from there and Kottayam district collector's office was contacted and requisite documents for travel was acquired. MP Suresh Gopi got in touch with Kerala Chief Minister's office and moved the paperwork along with Advocate Pratessh Viswanath.
Hindi Seva Kendram Volunteers, Srinath Padmannabhan and Krishna Prasad volunteered to drive all the way and accompanied the family as they stared their road journey via Bangalore, Pune and Surat.
They travelled along green zones and avoided public places and rest rooms. Food was provided to the family by volunteers of Hindu Seva Kendram in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
After reaching Jodhpur, Arun’s mother was allowed into ICU and she whispered something into her unconscious son’s ear. A miracle happened as next day onwards, as he began improving. In just two days since the arrival of his mother and wife, Arun was taken off the ventilator, began sitting up on a wheelchair and consuming liquids. A day later, he was moved to the ward and is recovering well. His wish is to travel to Kerala and see his young daughter.
A big round of thanks to BSF and Police officials, Doctors and Nurses all of whom helped in making this miracle possible.
Srinath and Krishna Prasad reached Kerala on Sunday and have gone into 4 weeks quarantine. Mission Jodhpur is Mission Accomplished.
